Strait-Line's claim that this is "the most capable laser level ever built" is an invitation to skepticism, but folks, after spending a little time with this model, we think it's true. Yes, there are other laser levels on the market that project both a horizontal and vertical line, but we've never seen one that lets you access the exact point of intersection—-this one does, so every job gets off to a flawless start. And flawless it is, because the Intersect self-levels within 8 degrees on a vertical surface. All you have to do is attach it to the wall (more on that in a minute) as close to vertical as you can, and Strait-Line's amazing technology projects perfectly level and plumb lines with zero guesswork for a 30 foot total horizontally and 20 feet vertically. (We'll do the math for you: That's a 600 square foot work area.) Mind you, the auto-leveling feature works on a vertical surface only, but use on the floor doesn't require leveling anyway. Another feature to love is that it leaves no marks on the wall; there are no pins to push in. Instead, Strait-Line has incorporated 3M's revolutionary Command Adhesive. Just peel, stick and remove the whole shebang when you're done, without a trace. Accuracy is outstanding, to within +/- 1/8 inch at 15 feet. This is a great tool for just about anybody, from contractors and cabinet installers to art galleries, builders, home decorators and of course, the intrepid do-it-yourselfer.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste |

Very useful for simple projects |
|
Seeing this for a good price from Shoppreview.com, I thought they'd be extremely useful for DIY work and ordered two of these -- one for myself and one as a present. This device uses a laser passed through a lens to project a "cross" onto a surface. The horizontal line was very bright and showed up well as far as 20 feet away (just as advertised), unfortunately, the vertical line was so faint that you could only see it in very dark rooms (e.g. no ambient lighting from windows) or when the device was within 1 foot from the wall. It took us a while to realize that the device must be mounted directly to the wall you are hanging the pictures on (using sticky adhesive provided in the box) to be able to use the laser lines. It will not work if you want to put it elsewhere in the room and project the lines onto the surface of interest. That said, it is extremely useful for aligning pictures and other items on the wall; however, if there's a door frame or other raised feature on the wall, the beam will not project past this feature so this limits the usefulness of the device. |

May work for hanging pictures but not for even light remodeling... |
I really don't see how reviewers can compare this laser level to similar "professional" ones.
After reading some of the raving reviews and seeing that the level was available real cheap, I decided it was worth a try; I thought I'd use it to help level some joists while refinishing my attic.
Unfortunately, the laser beam is very weak. It's never very bright, and rapidly fades away from the center. So while it may be visible out to ten feet (the product claims 20), you only get a visible line on either side of the center cross for a few degrees. Just a few feet of projected line seems functionally equivalent to a point.
In fact, I can't even see using it to hang pictures. A single picture is easy enough with a vial level, and this laser level won't project a long enough line to use for a wall full of frames.
As other reviewers have suggested, if you need a laser level (to make snapping chalk lines a one-person job, for example), you're much better off spending real money to get a real level to project either a line or a few points at right angles to each other. |

Almost perfect! |

If the lasers went just alittle further.... It would be 5 stars all around! Batteries seem to last a good while too! |
